welcome to 4x6, the TFL approved fanlisting for the PostSecret website

postsecret: humanity at its finest

it began, famously, as an idea for a community art project. people were invited to share secrets they had never told anyone ever before on the back of a 4x6 postcard, under the safe cover of anonymity. the subject matter of the postcards is left open for the postcard-maker : "Reveal anything," the project's website says, "as long as it is true and you have never shared it with anyone before."

the result? an intense, profound and painfully humane insight into the lives that we construct for the benefit of others, and for the benefit of ourselves.

In their survey of the 50 Coolest Websites 2005, TIME.com described the site as, "A fascinating public airing of private thoughts - some dark, others funny, endearing or disturbing - written on homemade postcards ... The range of efforts (meticulous, sloppy, artful, ponderous) will astound you". indeed, the secrets here may - and almost certainly will - offend some people's sensibilities. some are bound to shock, horrify or disgust you. that's okay - it's part of the PostSecret experience. so is beauty, honesty, heartbreak and courage. some secrets will speak to you as clearly as if you had made or wanted to make it yourself. others will seem absurd, alien, and even embarrassing. these are all feelings that are applicable in everyday life - though it may not be the life that you and i are used to seeing, it is surely not that far beneath the surface.

"There are two kinds of secrets. those we keep from others and those we keep from ourselves," writes self-professed "accidental artist" and PostSecret creator Frank Warren, in the first PostSecret book. "... I like to believe that whenever a painful secret ends its trip to my mailbox, a much longer personal journey of healing is beginning - for all of us,"

You are invited to anonymously contribute your secrets to PostSecret. Each secret can be a regret, hope, funny experience, unseen kindness, fantasy, belief, fear, betrayal, erotic desire, feeling, confession, or childhood humiliation. Reveal anything - as long as it is true and you have never shared it with anyone before.

Create your 4-by-6-inch postcards out of any mailable material. If you want to share two or more secrets, use multiple postcards. Put your complete secret and image on one side of the postcard.

Tips:
Be brief - the fewer words used the better.
Be legible - use big, clear and bold lettering.
Be creative - let the postcard be your canvas.
Mail your secrets, or other correspondence, to:

4x6: the fanlisting

what is a fanlisting? according to TFL, a fanlisting is simply an online listing of fans of a subject, such as a tv show, actor, or musician, that is created by an individual and open for fans from around the world to join. there are no costs, and the only requirements to join a fanlisting are your name and country. fanlistings do not have to be large sites (although some are) - they are just a place where you can have your name listed along with other fans of the same subject. thefanlistings.org is the original (but not official) web directory for fanlistings, dedicated to uniting the fans.

this fanlisting is in no way affiliated with postsecret.com. no copyright infringement is intended. this is a non-profit fanlisting. me, i'm just a fan, too.
